"Very dark cherry color with purple tones. In the nose, powerful aromas of red berries, toasted and smoked from aging in the oak barriques. Good structure with ripe and sweet tannins. In the mouth, very long, with a perfect balance between fruit, alcohol and oak tones, which makes for very pleasant and easy to drink wine." - Winery
100% Monastrell aged for 12 months in French oak.
The Juan Gil label dates back to 1916, when Juan Gil Gimenez, great grandfather of the previous generation, built the winery in the heart of Jumilla. Surrounded by vineyards, the Juan Gil winery is located on the slopes of de Cerezo mountain, covered with a forest that shelters the rear of the premises and protects it from the typical summer heat. The location allows for optimal conditions of vinification. When the winery was designed, it was done by employees themselves, directing the investments to where they were most needed, such as a temperature controlled cellar and an automatic data capture system that allows complete traceability of operations.
The grapes for this wine are selected from 40-year old parcels from the estate vineyards where shallow, chalky soils on a bed of limestone and rock, combined with an arid climate, produce low yields resulting in wines of great complexity. After harvesting, the grapes are whole-cluster macerated sur lie.
